2 Corinthians 5:11-13
Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade others; but we ourselves are well known to God, and I hope that we are also well known to your consciences.
We are not commending ourselves to you again, but giving you an opportunity to boast about us, so that you may be able to answer those who boast in outward appearance and not in the heart. For if we are beside ourselves, it is for God; if we are in our right mind, it is for you.
Reflect and Pray:
Have you ever been “beside yourself” about something? Perhaps it was a choice that was made, learning some bad news, or simply being upset in general. I have been. It is a miserable feeling in that it takes control of my thoughts and thus my actions. This can be a miserable experience.
What do you suppose it would mean to be “beside ourselves” about God? What if one could train the mind to become so overwhelmed, so moved, so touched by the infinite love and grace of God that is all we could think about. How would this then affect our choices and actions? Today, pray with me that we could, even for a short period of time every now and then, fall into this wonderful state so God’s love could shine through all we do.
